About this course

In this module, we will cover Contour and Surface Plots. If we have a single variable function, such as Y = f(X) then we can use an XY plot to understand the variation between X and  Y. However, if we have a function of two variables such as Z = f(X, Y), we can use a contour or surface plot to understand the relationship between X, Y, and Z.

Typically, for contour plots, X, Y, and Z are continuous variables. Contour plots can be used to visually understand what values of X and Y result in a given value of Z or to minimize or maximize the Z values for optimization problems.
