L

License Key

A License Key (LK) is a key that has been provided to you to activate your software license. You will not be able to use the software without a license key. If you don't have a license key, you may be able to request a temporary trial license key during registration. If not, contact the helpdesk to obtain a license key.

The license key contains the following details:

  • Which modules you are authorized to use
  • Your license start and end dates
  • Whether support is included in your license
  • The type of license you have (academic, business use, etc.)
  • Whether the license is a single-user license or a shared license key

When you enter a license key, you will need to click on Activate Key button in the license manager. This will check your license key against information that is stored on our server in order to validate and approve your license key.

M

Machine Key

The Machine Key (MK) is a term that is used within Sigma Magic software to uniquely identify your computer. Each computer is given a unique key such as LXS802AB127. To find your license key, click on License on the Sigma Magic main menu bar and look under Machine Key.

Note that your machine key should not change if your upgrade your Operating System but if you make certain changes such as changing your disk drive or IP adapter then it is possible that the software identifies your machine with a different machine key. Your license key is tied to your machine key so if your machine key changes, you will need to contact the support helpdesk to update your license key.

R

Registration Code

A registration code is a 16-digit number that is pre-assigned to certain users. An example registration code is 1342-AB14-CDFE-3987. This code contains details about the user and their license key and hence is not transferrable. If you are provided a registration code, you can use it during registration. It will avoid you having to validate your email address and enter the license key.

If you don't have a registration code, do not worry. You can enter the requested details yourself during registration and then enter your license key or request a trial license. An extra step is involved to validate your email address during registration if you don't have the registration code.

V

Version Number

The software version number is denoted as X.Y.Z. For example, 15.1.12 is a version number. The first digit 15 refers to the major release. Typically, each new major release contains substantially improved features of the software. The second number 1 refers to the minor version number. Each new minor release contains changes to the software user interface but is not sufficiently large enough to be called a major release. Finally, the last digit 12 refers to the bug fix number. Each time a bug is reported/fixed in the software, this number changes.

If you are encountering any problems with your software, you can check if a newer version is available on our server and you can upgrade your software to see if your problem has been addressed. If not, please report the issue to the helpdesk to get the issue resolved. Whenever, there is a new major or minor version released, you will automatically get a notification of the change and we encourage you to update your software to the latest version.
