Chart Format

Overview

Sigma Magic automatically determines the right chart format and labels to use when a chart is created by any analysis tool. Chart settings can be manually edited directly on the chart. However, the problem with this approach is that the next time the chart is regenerated by the software (say when you change your data and want to re-compute results), the manual changes you make to the chart are lost. The Chart Format feature can be used to save the changes you make to the chart so that the next time you regenerate the chart, the same settings are re-applied to the chart.

A sample screenshot of the Analysis Setup menu is shown below. A box plot analysis setup is shown below for example but similar analysis options can be opened for any analysis by clicking on Analysis Setup button.

Usage

The Chart Format options can be clicking on the Charts tab on the right within the Analysis Setup menus. At the bottom of all the chart settings you will find a button such as the one shown below that can be used to save and re-apply chart formats.

main menu There are primarily two main button to use for working with the Chart Format as described below.
1
Set Format: Click on this button to copy the chart format and save them to the settings so that the next time the chart format can be re-applied.
2
Clear Format: Click on this button to clear any chart formats that have been saved in the past.

Parameters Set

Note that the chart format is primarly used to set the following settings only. For each chart, these parameters are copied from the chart and then saved in settings. When a chart is regenerated, these parameters are re-applied to the chart from the settings. If the settings are cleared, then no changes are made to the default settings set by the Sigma Magic software.

FAQ

This section contains some frequently asked questions. If you have other questions about this module, please contact technical support.
Why does my original chart format get changed even if I don't change any chart settings?
Note that we only save certain settings of the charts and re-apply them. Sigma Magic can set the chart options at an individual level (for each data point), while the chart format settings are saved only at a group level. So, any individual options that are set by the software will be removed when the group formats are applied. This is currently a limitation of the chart format that individual data settings are not saved and re-applied.
Why do I lose my setting if I make changes to the total number of charts that are displayed?
Currently, data is saved for all charts at the same time. If you change the number of charts (say delete chart 2), then the software cannot figure out which chart settings to apply to each chart. So, if you delete one chart, all chart settings are lost and have to be re-applied. Hence, we recommend that you first perform your analysis and finalize how many charts you want to display. Then make changes to the charts as required and then save the chart options. Don't make changes to the number of charts after you save your chart options.
